Yooo-hoo! Toma here!

For the past several years, as I write to friends and family from around the globe; wherever I may be hanging my hat at the moment, I get comments like, "Toma, you should write a book!"

Okay, this is as close as you're going to get. For now, anyway. I think it's a nice way for me to share the random things that happen in my day-to-day life...that many people find amusing. And I do, too! There is so much humor in every day life, I mean, you can't make this stuff up!!! So, here I am. Today's the first post, enjoy and comment as you wish...love to hear from you, always!

July is here, summer is in full swing, and I am reflecting back on a great 4th of July holiday. I was not planning on it to be, as the holiday fell on a MONDAY...which meant back to work on TUESDAY...grrrr! Who wants to 'properly' celebrate the 4th, when you have to go back to work the very next day? I had originally planned to spend the 4th with my friend Krashworth in San Francisco. She came down to Monterey for a night, as we were in DIRE need of some girly-Toma-Krash-time, along with parlor games. Krash lives in Boston, and it'd been over a year since she visited me in Japan...so...there you have it.

I must take a moment and send some love to my girl, my homey, Kristy Ashworth (a/k/a Krash, you can find her blog at http://www.krashworth.blogspot.com/). She introduced me to blogspot (HOLLAH!!), and has remained my inspiration for all things good left in the world. I truly think the world of Kristy, and honestly feel I'm a better person because she's in my life.

Anyway, after our female-bonding night, I was planning to drive her back up to her friend's apartment in Frisco, then see the fireworks from her friends' rooftop apartment, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Trouble is, the fireworks didn't commence until 2100 (that's 9pm for you non-military types!), and I wasn't all fired up (all puns intended) about driving home 2 hours, late night, on a holiday. I'll pass. Nothing against Krash and her flare for entertainment, but I wasn't about it. So, I decided just to chuck the fireworks...after all, I worked at Walt Disney World for 13 years, saw fireworks every night in between parades...really...what was there to see?

Headed home, and decided to have some down time with another friend, Michele. I said, "Well, the Monterey fireworks are being shot over the bay at 2115. Come on over, we'll order pizza, and maybe we'll catch a glimpse?" I do have a small bay view from my house, but had no idea what I was in store for... As it turns out...my front lawn was an amazing location. Got the full on view of the Monterey fireworks, and even got a few from Santa Cruz! I had Chester and Michele to hang out with. My neighbors (Ralph & Kelly) also dropped by, it was a good night.

The moral of the story? Sometimes, when you least expect it...things just have a way of exploding right in front of you.

And it's not always so bad!!!

Here's Krash and Chester yesterday...
